We believe that food is the best medicine and can also be our biggest poison if used improperly. We seek to educate others on the value of fresh, homegrown food or from local sources and farmer’s markets. Enjoy whole food rather than processed food. Eat a wide variety of food that includes a rainbow of colors. Ideally, eat with the seasons to be in balance with the rhythms of the Earth. Enjoy organic food and avoid pesticides. The Environmental Working Group is a good consumer advocacy source of information on toxins in our food and water that should be avoided, along with other products such as for skin care, house cleaning and others. Their link is in our Resources/Links page.
What we eat is intricately linked with the status of our gut microbiome. We are learning that the gut microbiome is key for our biological functions. For decades it has been referred to as the second brain and now we are learning it also affects hormones, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular health, liver health, autoimmunity and more. In our consulting with new clients in the clinic, we always begin with the gut, often with DNA analysis of the gut microbes. When the gut is disrupted, it can lead to delayed sensitivities to foods and we can also test for that. We believe the balance of the gut microbiome is key to absorption of nutrients from our food.
One of the first symptoms of Dr. Husted’s near-lethal black widow spider bite on December 2, 2000, was that her stomach clamped down and became paralyzed. She could not even retain water and shrunk to nearly 80 pounds and was eventually hospitalized and fed with a PICC line into her heart and IV liquids. For a long time she experienced extreme hunger and all she could think about was all the children and people on Earth who are experiencing hunger. Her prayer with every meal as she began to eat and continues to this day is May All Be Fed.
There is enough food in this world to feed all, a basic need of survival, and our non-profit seeks to support this mission of May All Be Fed through linking beginning first in our home towns, then national, then international.
May all be fed wholesome, nutritious food.
