For the past three years we have had a research collaboration with Neufit of Austin, Texas, to explore their Neubie direct current (DC) device. Richard Ennis and Cynthia Husted are certified in the method by the founder, Neufit in Austin, Texas. We have been exploring the benefits of the Neubie for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), multiple sclerosis (MS), atrial fibrillation (AFib), and cardiac imbalances in Covid long haul. The work with ALS has resulted in a case study that is in press describing its benefits for increasing movement, strength, and reducing pain.

DC mimics the electrical signaling of the body and action potentials, allowing it to essentially speak the same language through a few mechanisms. One NeuFit procedure called the “Master Reset” protocol is thought to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system via vagal nerve stimulation, bringing calm to an overexcited sympathetic nervous system. Because heart rhythms and arrhythmia are controlled through a fine balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system, the Master Reset protocol might be effective in resetting normal heart rhythm to subjects experiencing AFib and other cardiac arrhythmias such as in Covid long haul.  Our preliminary observations have shown that in one subject with recurrent AFib, depending on the severity of the AFib episode the AFib converted to a rhythmic pulse in 3-13 minutes, 1-12 hours, or with use of multiple treatments over two days. Current studies are exploring the uses of the Neubie Master Reset for prevention of AFib and the use of a larger cohort to explore its benefits. Thus we seek to obtain a second device for Dr. Banter’s clinic so that we can explore its effects at two sites.

The Neubie ("Neuro-Bio-Electric") is a patented and FDA-cleared DC stimulation device. Using DC has several unique effects on patients, including promoting tissue healing and optimizing the healing and repairing of bone, muscle, connective tissue, and nerves. While repairing and healing the body takes time, the Neubie is even better known for creating “Wow” moments with patients who make functional changes very quickly.

In a recent survey of hundreds of patients, over 90% noticed tangible progress in their first session, including reductions in pain or spasticity, increases in range of motion, and improvements in strength and coordination. Another benefit of using the Neubie device is that it creates greater sensory and afferent neurological input to accelerate the process of neuromuscular re-education.

We have recently obtained a second Neubie direct current device for the clinic of our VP, Dr. Amy Banter, so that we may study neurological disorders, including cardiac arrhythmias, across two clinical sites to better understand its effects based on our initial observations. Regarding the mechanism of action of the Neubie on the human body and nervous system, at this time we can only extrapolate from cellular and animal studies and we seek to explore such mechanisms through our clinical studies with outcome measures using functional labs. Studies to date have shown that DC can change gene expression, promote stem cell migration, create beneficial changes to brain cells, increase nitric oxide production, possibly affect mitochondrial output of cellular energy, and possibly affect changes to the gut microbiome. We seek to explore these possibilities in the clinic with functional lab outcomes to better understand energy medicine.
