Our founder, Dr. Cynthia Husted, researched neurological disorders for over 30 years as part of her doctoral, postdoctoral, and independent research in the university environment. Her research of the myelin insulating sheath of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) included studies of myelin development and aging and changes in neurological disorders with a focus on multiple sclerosis (MS).
She showed time and again with both microscopic and macroscopic MRI studies that the normal-appearing white matter in MS is not normal as relates to the myelin lipids (fats). This work was aimed at understanding the root structure and function changes in myelin that precede autoimmune demyelination that may stimulate the process.
For the past 34 years, Dr. Husted and Dr. Banter have collaborated on implementing integrative functional medicine in the clinical environment for neurological disorders, including helping those with MS, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, autism spectrum, mood disorders, neuropathy, cardiac arrhythmias with neurological dysfunction, and Covid long haul. Closely entwined with the study of these disorders is the study of the human microbiome, especially of the gut which is referred to as the second brain, and the connection of the mind-body-spirit.
Richard Ennis has a keen interest in neuroplasticity. He uses this information to assist clients in eliminating chronic pain.
We seek to better understand and help those with neurological disorders through approaches in restoring function, optimizing function, and maintaining optimal health through expertise in biochemistry, functional medicine, and energy medicine with approaches in technology, clinical research, and education.
Recently, Dr. Husted and Dr. Banter were certified in Advanced Laboratory Test Interpretation with the Goodenowe Institute. With his research-based approach and state-of-the-art testing, Dr. Goodenowe explores the biochemical systems of our lives and arrives at real-world solutions for enhancing our resilience, vitality, and longevity. His testing methods greatly overlap with Dr. Husted’s university research and is the perfect clinical counterpart to her research history.
We have formed a collaboration with the Goodenowe Institute to better understand and treat neurological disorders with approaches in biochemistry and lifestyle. We will also explore the role of the gut microbiome in neurological disorders and assessments of emotional wellbeing.
We are interested in the concept of electromagnetic hypersensitivity, or a sensitivity to electromagnetic fields that affects the nervous system. Though this is not yet acknowledged by the medical community as a recognized diagnosis, we have encountered many individuals with this issue and have found that genetics may play a role. We seek to explore this phenomenon to better understand its cause and effects because as of now it is only recognized as psychosomatic in origin. History has shown time and again that this is the response for disorders we do not understand, such as with multiple sclerosis, chronic fatigue syndrome, and most recently with Covid long haul.
